VIBRATION SORTING & FLOW RIG
The VSFR (Vibration Sorting & Flow Rig) is a TT developed concept which combines the functionality of the TT VSR 3 and VTR 100 in one package, designed primarily for the smaller turbo repair shop.
The VSFR is both a high-speed core-balancing machine, for measuring and correcting imbalance of turbocharger core assemblies, and a vane flow test machine for the measurement and adjustment of mass air flow through variable geometry turbochargers. Combining the functions provides two machines in one giving both an economic package and a smaller footprint saving space in a small workshop.
VSR™
HIGH SPEED BALANCING
When used for balancing, the centre-housing rotating assembly (CHRA) is mounted in an adaptor which acts as a slave turbine housing. The core (CHRA) is then driven by compressed air to rotational speeds up to 300,000 rev/min (depending upon model size) and the level of vibration measured. The VSFR includes the patented TT multi adaptor which allows the testing of many different turbocharger types using just one adaptor.
Dedicated software records data in real time, displaying a two-dimensional speed/vibration graph and imbalance position indicator. The CHRA can then be balanced over the complete speed range, typically covering first and second vibration modes. To reduce cycle times a hand-operated air cutter can be used for making balance cuts without removing the CHRA from the machine.
VTR
FLOW SETTING
As a vane test flow bench, completed turbochargers are mounted on the machine in a universal holding block and air connections are made by magnetic inlet and outlet adaptors. The machine flows air through the turbo with the VNT mechanism in a closed position and meters the air flow while maintaining a constant pressure at the turbine entry (VNT Turbo Operation). A specific software template is selected which contains data for the correct flow and actuator travel figures for the turbocharger being tested. The measured values are displayed on the screen in graphical and numerical form and the actuator is then adjusted until the flow matches the values in the template.
A comprehensive list of templates is available for download (regularly updated) and the software allows for bespoke templates to be created by the user.
The VSFR is capable of testing both vacuum and electronic actuators (electronic types require a separate actuator driver such as the TT ATP 100)
Accessories
TURBINE HOUSING ADAPTERS
The patented multi-adapter kit included with the VSFR allows the fitment of the majority of smaller turbo cores by changing only a simple adapter ring.
For regular use, a very wide range of standard adapters is also available.
Electronic Actuator Driver
ACTUATOR TEST
Available as an optional extra, the ATP 100 will drive virtually all electronic actuators. Used in conjunction with the VSFR, the ATP 100 allows flow-setting of electronic actuators in addition to vacuum and pressure types.
